TOPOGRAPHIC MAP
In the early 1980s, the national institute of cartography and remote sensing launched a new program of a basic regular topographic cartography at a 1:50 000 scale. It replaces the old cartography which became obsolete.
The projection system conical lambert was abandoned for the UTM system and for a new installed cutting (geographic).
The photogrammetric restitution from an aerial photography at the scale 1:40 000 allows a detailed and precise surveys for a photography at the scale 1:25 000. It allows too a photographic cover mainly for the coastal area at the scale 1:25 000.

The INCT publishes and commercializes a several series of basic topographic maps and derivatives at different scales.
Two scales are defined for the basic cartography: 1:50 000 for the north and 1:200 000 for the south. The actually limit of 1:50 000 is the parallel 34°.
